Leaked concept art point to a SimCity 5

Several leaked images found by German magazine Gamestar appear to point to the existence of SimCity 5, which according to the magazine is about 30% done and slated for release in 2013.

NeoGAF users discovered the images and posted a translation of the Gamestar article, which claims that players can expect more complexity and detail from the new game, as well as more online multiplayer functionality as well. Regions can be created from multiple players' cities, for instance, and they can all be susceptible to fluctuations in the costs of various commodities like fuels and food.

New elements and interactions with players' SimCitizens will be showing up, as well. If unemployment gets too high, homeless people will begin filling the city parks. Construction workers will appear to handle construction jobs, and you will... Read More

I hope the game looks even partially like this. I think the concept work is gorgeous.

Sim City 4 was trash, hopefully this is better.

Has anyone tried Cities XL? I see it on Steam and I'm very intrigued.

I have sim city on the iPad and it's really hard. I'm broke after a couple of years and my city goes to shit. I hope they make it easier while increasing the detail and complexity.

It's been 9 years since SC4 was released; I'd started to give up hope we'd ever see a proper sequel. While lacking the depth of Impression's city building games (i.e. Caesar/Pharaoh/Zeus/Emperor), Sim City games have always been a fun little sandbox games. Looking forward to this.

Not played it, but the general impression I got is that it's a poor substitute for a proper Sim City sequel. Then again, most modern city builders are unfortunately, overshadowed by what Maxis and Impression made back in the day. Anno 2070 had that same problem earlier last year.

Cities XL is a steaming pile of crap. I tried it and it is broken, not functional and very limited in options. And I believe there is no modding community.

I loved SC4, what was so bad about that game? Compared to SC3000 I thought it was more polished, had slightly more options and the idea of linking cities worked pretty well in principle. I was overjoyed when I finally succeeded having one town full of industry, and the other full of working class people. For SC5 I hope they let go of grid-based building though. To be able to plot your city more free form would be awesome, and it would get rid of having to fill op those single spaces with a park or some random pavement because the game cannot handle diagonal roads very well.

That's some pretty artwork. The last Sim City game I played was the first one, my approach to increasing traffic was to build more roads, I was thrown out of office a lot.

I never played 4, but I really enjoyed 3 and played the ever-loving bejezeezus out of 2000 and the SNES version, so I'm pretty psyched. I did play the original PC version also, but the SNES version spoiled me and I just never enjoyed it.
