Unreal Engine 4 to be unveiled in 2012

In an offhand comment to G4TV, Epic Games vice president Mark Rein revealed that the next iteration of their game engine technology, Unreal Engine 4, will be officially unveiled this year.

“People are going to be shocked later this year when they see Unreal Engine 4 and how much more profound an effect it will have,” Rein said in an interview.

Over the last several years, Unreal Engine has become one of the de-facto game engines used in the industry, powering some of the biggest games on the market. It’s likely that when we see Unreal Engine 4, we’ll be looking at what we can expect from games in the next generation of hardware, as well as software. Exciting stuff!
