After teasing a release last week, Sega confirmed today that we’ll be seeing a high definition re-release of the breakout Dreamcast hit, Jet Grind Radio arrive on consoles and PC this summer.
Focused around roller blading and civil disobedience, Jet Grind Radio lets gamers join a graffiti gang determined to shake the city loose from corporate control. Maybe in the era of Occupy Wall Street and protests around the world, the game will feel more relevant than ever?
Released in 2000, Jet Grind Rado (or Jet Set Radio, as released in Japan and its Xbox-based sequel) was renowned for its use of cel-shaded graphics, creating a cartoon look that at the time was a revelation in gaming. Of course, it’s been over a decade since the original and about ten years since the sequel, and gamers have been demanding another shot at the graffiti-laden city of Tokyo-to – maybe this will be the first volley in a revival?
What do you say, Sega?
At the very least, they’re running another contest in which aspiring artists can have their graffiti art featured in the game, submissions are due March 20.
