Freebie Friday: Super Crate Edition

Hey cheapskates, here comes this week’s Freebie Friday! Because we’re tired from the Consumer Electronics Show, we’ll get right to it. This week, we’ve found you the excellent Super Crate Box from Dutch game developers Vlambeer. They are known for other games in the past, like Radical Fishing, and did the JRPG takeoff Serious Sam: The Random Encounter.

Super Crate Box is a retro-flavored arcade shooter pitting players against a never-ending stream of monsters in various arenas, as they scramble to collect crates that appear throughout the level. Each crate contains new weapons that are of varying utility, and the end result is a fun arcade experience that is quick to play but hard to put down.

If you are viewing this post on a computer, then you can play the game. Vlambeer has a Windows and Mac version available, and in keeping with our Freebie Friday key criteria, it’s free! (Okay, no Linux. Sorry.) If you want to take it with you for fun on the go, you can grab the iOS version of Super Crate Box for a buck, as well.

On top of all this, the game saves high scores for viewing online and in-game. Prepare for bragging rights, and a continuous challenge as you work to beat the next guy on the list.

So there you have it. Until next week, freeloaders!
