Today, Capcom revealed the upcoming Resident Evil 6, due to release this November. Spanning several locations around the globe, instead of one singular location, the new game brings together popular series leads Chris Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, along with several new supporting characters.
Taking place ten years after the original Raccoon City incident, Resident Evil 6 starts off with Leon dealing with an American president who, before revealing the truth of Bio-Organic Weapons, transforms into one; meanwhile in China, Chris and the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance deal with a bioterror outbreak. And of course it all goes downhill from there.
The game itself looks like it is hoping to blend the original survival horror we grew to love, and the more actiony, fast-paced gaming we’ve come to expect in later entries of the series. The trailer depicts Leon featuring some slick new dodge moves, sliding under a zombie to shoot it while on his back, and other characters sliding/diving into cover, much akin to Gears of War styled mechanics.
“Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series,” commented Katsuhiko Ichii, Head of R&D and Global Marketing via official press release. “The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world.”
Resident Evil 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 20, with a PC version to follow “later.”

Cool!
Here's hoping it's better than RE5 though.
It looks pretty cool, I just hope I can get through RE4 and RE5 in time to play it.
better than re5? Impossible! That game was goty like three or more years in a row.
also re5 already had a gears-style cover system
the only problem with the cover system is that in a lot of places, there was only convenient cover for one person. so personally, I kept getting faced with the choice of standing around with my thumb up my butt while dustin sniped from the corner cover, or else moving up and separating us. (at the highest difficulty, choosing to separate is an AWFUL decision, since basically one hit from any zombie will knock you down and you'll bleed out in about half a second)
While I really liked the co-op in Resident Evil 5 - I DO think it detracted from the overall game. I'm kinda glad to see that RE6 is going back to being a pretty much solo affair. Yet it wouldn't surprise me if they did announce some sort of co-op in the future - I just don't see how it would work via the plot seeing as Leon is in the US and Chris is in China. There are those two "new" characters (one of whom has to be Ashley - it looks just like her), but from the looks of it they play only a portion of a role in the game.
Also while I would love for the series to go back to the "scare" roots of the original 3, this one does look like an action packed fun fest. While November is a ways off, at least I'll have Revelations to tide me over until then (that and my RE4 run thru on the 360 that I need to finish).
Didn't just look like Ashley, pretty sure it was the same exact voice. I haven't played RE4 in about 5 years, but that whiny bitch's voice is ingrained in my head.
It could be that the supporting characters for each main character would be for a second player to control?
RE5 was a lot of fun.
It actually made going back to RE4 really hard, as the controls feel extremely restrictive as a result.
Also, Sheva.
I should have clarified. RE5 as a solo affair was shit. Multiplayer, well, it was made to be played co-op, so that's a different story.
If re6 isn't full-on co-op like re5, I won't even play it.
I spent most of my time with Resident Evil 5 solo and still enjoyed the game. It was more fun co-op, naturally, but every game is.
I'm much more interested in Resident Evil 6 than I am the 3DS Resident Evil.
While I played and enjoyed RE5 in co-op - about 80% of my time with that title was solo play, and I still loved every second of it. I don't really like the game at all as a Resident Evil title - but as a stand alone game I'm with faits in that it should have been a GotY at some point (maybe not in the year it was released, as there were better titles that year, but it was a great freaking game).
Of course thats just me - I've found that most games I enjoy playing solo a lot of other people would rather play co-op. But as I'm the only person I have to agree with, I'm always right.
Sacred 2 is another off the top of my head, although it doesn't help co-op that multiplayer is really buggy.
There are some games I loved playing solo for awhile but now I won't play unless it's co op, just because it really is that much better. Left 4 Dead by yourself is all fine and good and I used to play it all the time by myself, but after playing with the same handful of 7-8 people for the past year straight, I just don't enjoy playing it without them anymore. There's no one to make snarky zombie related comments to, or laugh at when something stupid happens to them like when they get bitchslapped off a 40 story building or when Lae and I managed to get crushed to death by the same tank-flipped car despite being 200 feet apart and on separate sides of a building, etc.
I could see myself going through Guardian of Light several times with a friend, but not even once more by myself. Unfortunately the co op is a laggy mess.
Here are the facts from Capcom:
Co-op returns. Whether we’ll see more than 2-player is yet to be determined.
The story takes place 10 years after the Raccoon City incident, which puts it around 2008 (RE5 also takes place in 2008 - so it is currently unknown if RE6 takes place before or after).
The president was turned into a zombie by a bio-terrorism group before given the chance to fully disclose details of the Raccoon City incident to the public.
Traditional zombies return.
Leon S. Kennedy has a new female partner.
Tall Oaks is an American town reminiscent of Raccoon City.
Chris Redfield will be counteracting bio-terrorists in China.
There is a new Zombie form called the "Javo" - these are the shape-shifting zombies in the trailer (the one who's arm stretches out to grab Chris from cover is a Javo).
Resident Evil 6 will arrive on 360 and PS3 November 20, with the PC version following later.
All of that is "official" information directly from Capcom. But if you watch the trailer carefully you can gain some other helpful information.
The game will split your time between three teams of two. Leon and his female partner will handle things in Tall Oaks. Ashley and her male former mercenary partner (heavily rumored to be Hunk from the RE Mercenaries mini-games) will battle the plague in an undisclosed location. Chris and his male partner from the BSAA will fight primarily in China (most likely Shanghai).
The game retains RE4 and RE5's game play style, but with marked improvements, including the abilities to (FINALLY) shoot while moving, take cover and shoot from a laying down position. While there was a cover system in RE5, it wasn't very prevalent - RE6 looks to improve on that ability.
With Leon, Chris and Ashley returning we already know that RE6 is pulling the cast from previous games. In addition to those three it also appears that Ingrid Hunnigan returns - for those that don't remember: Ingrid was the young woman who Leon kept contacting on his "codec" in RE4.
While traditional Zombies appear to be returning in Tall Oaks, these aren't your Father's Zombies, there are several scenes in the trailer where they seem to have some lovely new physical abilities like being able to make huge leaps and run at you rather than do the zombie shuffle.
In addition to the improved gun-play, it looks like RE6 may be taking a page from Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead 2 with the use of melee weapons. There is a moment in the trailer where Leon quite visibly embeds an axe into an undead's skull. Whether this means you'll be able to find melee weapons around town or if the axe is just the new "knife" is unknown, but at the very least it could be a nice way to preserve your ammo if Tall Oaks plays like RE1, 2 or 3 with limited ammo resources.
There also appears to be enemies separate from the infected this time around as well - as Chris is seen taking aim at living human targets more than once during the trailer. Could these folks be the "bio-terrorists" the President mentioned at the beginning of the trailer? Its possible - it could also mean that while Leon is trying to handle the Tall Oaks outbreak of zombies, Chris and his partner are more after the bio-terrorists who started the whole mess.
There were a couple of other "cool" things noticed in the trailer - the needle grenade (could this be a bio-terrorist weapon used to spread the virus?) - there be giants here (both RE4 and 5 had their "giant" characters with the trolls, it looks like RE6 will have one too as there is a quick 2 second shot of a giant creature chasing civilians) - Chris rides a tank (yep, it was a blink and you'll miss it moment in the trailer, but Chris is definitely in a tank in once scene).
That is quite a lot to glean from a short-ish 6 minute trailer, but from the looks of things RE6 could be a great combination of both the old and the new. Further details are sure to trickle out over the next few months as we get closer to the November release - so stay tuned.
I guess I was wrong about the return of co-op, which frankly doesn't surprise me at all. Capcom would be stupid to abandon co-op, especially since it was the major selling point of RE5 (though some would argue it was also the main problem with the game as well). I was basing my "guess" on just one viewing of the trailer, but now that I've seen it a few more times I can see that there are supporting players in each of the locations. Hopefully it doesn't take away from the story telling this time - as I'd love for RE6 to have a solid, meaty plot.
ugh who wants to shoot while moving in resident evil
gross
Here is some rather interesting new information regarding Resident Evil 6 - thanks to Kotaku.com - according to a newly released "Product Info" page over at xbox.com not only will RE6 support co-op, it will support 6 player online co-op! Here is the info tile on xbox.com

Some people have pointed out that since the page has some pretty glaring misprints (such as the game's release date, which is supposed to be November 20th, NOT January 20th), that the "6" player co-op may also be a misprint. Capcom has been contacted for confirmation but so far have not responded. If this does hold true, it would mean Resident Evil 6 would be the RE title with the most co-op players, a distinction that had belonged to Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City releasing in March with 4 player simultaneous co-op.
Of course it should also be noted that the 6 player online co-op may have NOTHING at all to do with the single player portion of RE6. There could be an as of yet unannounced Mercenaries mode in the game (almost every Resident Evil game has featured a Mercs mode) - and it could be that the Mercenaries mode will feature the 6 player co-op.
If Capcom comments I'll be sure to update everyone.
Everything on the internet is true and honest. Especially on 4chan.
Even unaltered it looks pretty much like a giraffe receiving fellatio.
Which actually makes me want to play the game even more.
Although insane things do sell me on games. I bought Noby Noby Boy after all.
She's only a hooker if she's getting paid, and I don't see that giraffe holding a checkbook.
Who pays hookers via check?
apparently marlin does
Well since I expense all my hookers through my business, it's important to have records (cancelled checks and the like).
You know, for tax purposes.
Well that sounds like smart financial management.
