WGAYPTW: Aliens, Superheroes, Cursing and Bad Grammar – Yay!

DC Universe Online Hero Gathering

Its amazing sometimes what captures your imagination and what flies on by. How sometimes you can get so caught up in a Cooking Television show you miss out of a premiere of a great sci-fi show – a genre that you usually make it an appointment to watch. How sometimes a snowfall in the two feet range can be seen as cool, yet later in the year a two inch fall is regarded as the worst event ever. How about a more personal example? Earlier this year while reading a preview of the PC and PS3 MMORPG “DC Universe Online” I wasn’t extremely interested. And it was a justified “meh” – an online Role Playing Game appearing on a console? Aside from Everquest on the PS2 and Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and Xbox 360, it was generally unheard of. Not only do developers have to take a complex system and shrink it down to fit on a controller, they also need to get a monthly surcharge passed the console manufacturer – something a LOT of MMORPG developers have claimed to be the death knell for their Xbox 360 games, Microsoft just wasn’t budging on the charges – either MS wanted a piece of the pie or wanted the games launched without a subscription, no one really knows. So being skeptical way back then was totally justified. Yet here I am, three days after launch, and I think I’ve played in that online universe during all the free time I’ve had. If you could have told my “June 2010″ self that would be the case come January 2011 I’d have called you a liar. But there we are.

That just seems to be the way of things sometimes – you find yourself involved in things you would never expect. Perhaps that’s how we grow as people, trying new things, breaking out of our self imposed walls to see how far we can push things or maybe to see just what we can accept. Sure sometimes that means playing a bad game, or seeing a bad movie, or even spending time in places doing things that later we’ll regret. As that old saying goes: “Can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.”

Alright then, let us get beyond my pointless philosophizing and get into the nitty gritty of our weekly thread. How about a recap?!

Did Capcom Steal from Twisted Pixel?

Well we all know which game will most likely occupy my time for the next few days – at least until Tuesday’s release of Little Big Planet 2. I always find it odd how my PS3 usage is like a roller coaster with peaks and valleys, twists, turns and corkscrews – months can go by with me not touching a game on the system, but then the console will get a slew of usage as a ton of must play games get released. Anyways, enough about me! What Games Are You Playing This Week????
