Famitsu has detailed the several classes players will be able to choose from in the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV when it launches for the PC this September. Players will have 18 different classes to select from, and similar to other games in the series that use the Job System, players will be able to switch between these various roles at will. While we don’t have concrete details on most of them, some are pretty straightforward for longtime fans of the series.
What’s particularly unique is that, for the most part, these classes are designed around a vocation and not the traditional MMO roles like wizards, fighters, thieves and the like. Not that those don’t exist, sort of, but Final Fantasy XIV aims to be a little bit different. The classes are also divided into four major groups, which should give players a clue as to how to play the class. So check out the list here, and then peruse the gallery we’ve got here for you!
So are you planning on playing the game when it comes out? What class(es) are you going to focus on? Let us know in the comments!

I played quite a lot of FF11 on PS2 as a beta tester and despite a lot of issues I REALLY liked what they were going for.
So you could say that I am already looking forward to getting into FF14 - though this time I'm sticking with the PC version. I've been signed up for Beta testing since sign ups began so I hope to get in on a little pre-release action just to see how its holding up, but I've read a few promising previews of the game on a couple of sites - enough to make me comfortable with maybe purchasing the game at release.
If I were a wise man I would ignore this game and just forget about it.
Only eighteen???
My response to this game is the same as it ever was:
only interested if a group of friends was interested in playing it casually (i.e. not eight hours a night every night)
yeah, after thousands of hours into ffxi, i have very conflicted memories of this game.
but i was the best damn red mage you ever did see from the east side of the pacific ocean. my only regret about wow was that i was never as good at it as i was at ffxi.
ffxi also had a phenomenal battle system. the flow of battle, when done well, is like a symphony.
but yeah, probably not going back to all that. nothing like LFG in Juno for hours at a time.
