DualShock Comes to Wii

DualShock Comes to Wii

Jan 27, 2010

If you’ve been just waiting for something else to plug into your wiimote, wait no longer. According to this, Ninty’s new take on the classic controller will be hitting NA shelves this spring, along with a package that contains both the controller and Capcom’s new Monster Hunter Tri.

While the current model of the classic controller most closely resembles a Super Nintendo controller with two analog sticks stuck on there, this new iteration brings to mind nothing so much as Sony’s venerated DualShock. Given the fact that the DualShock and its predecessor built largely on the layout of the SNES controller, with added ergonomic grips and additional shoulder buttons, this should come as no surprise.

The controller itself is set to debut for $19.99, while the MSRP on the Monster Hunter Tri pack is reputed to be $59.99.

I left a note on this in the comments, but I'll mention it here also. I picked one of these up in Japan last year, and it's easily one of the best controllers I've ever used. It's fantastic. If you play any actiony games on the Wii at all that use traditional gamepad controls, this is by far what you want to be using.

I've seen that controller online and thought about picking it up, but since it was an import, it was selling for $35. For $20, I will probably pick one up despite already having a SNES-style Classic Controller.

I have one classic controller, but I've always thought these look great so once they are out I might pick one up.

Yeah, I'll definitely be grabbing one of these at some point down the line. I like the original one, but it looks like this will be more comfortable to hold.

Is it physically any bigger than the first iteration? My only real complaint about the original is it's sort of small in my hands and the analogs feel crowded.

  5. Stalfos's Avatar Stalfos says:

Yeah it is a bit bigger, as you can see in the picture here the analogs are spread further apart. Other than that it looks pretty similar. The thing that attracts me most are the handles, if they are anything like the Gamecube handles I'll love it.

I never got the classic controller, and when this one was announced last year I was mad that it was not gonna be available in America - so now that it is coming I may actually get one.

Now to actually buy some Virtual Console games...

It's bigger by about a centimeter and some change. It is a noticeable difference though, when you are playing. I thought the classic controller felt too small also, but this works out pretty well.

I really didn't like the GC controller handles (one of many problems that POS controller had)... they didn't flare out at all, so they forced my wrists into an unnatural position that got uncomfortable quickly. Luckily, this new controller looks like the handles are designed better.

  9. Stalfos's Avatar Stalfos says:

Hmm, well to me the GC controller is one of the most comfortable controllers I've held. I could see though how the angle of the handles could make it uncomfortable for some, but I don't remember having problems with that. Could be differences in grip or something. One complaint that many have that I do agree with is the d-pad. While it still works fine, it was just too small and the position was a bit odd.
