15 years ago today, the Sony PlayStation launched in Japan. Since then it’s become arguably one of the world’s largest and most recognized brands, both inside and outside the gaming industry.
To celebrate, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has put together a website chronicling the brand’s various hardware releases, from the launch of the original PlayStation to the most recent PSP Go. The “15″ logo also pays a fun homage to things like SingStar microphones and Buzz! controllers, as well as the rubber ducks which were big parts of the PS2 and PS3 tech demos.
This weekend, we’ll be taking a look back at the system that challenged the Big Two and won. Stay tuned for more!

15 years eh? That's crazy. Next year will be 10 years of the PS2 (although they claim 20 games will come out for it... but so far only 3-4 are listed in our system, and one of those was pushed back from this year) and then it looks like they are basically pulling support to focus on the PS3. They should have done that sooner in my opinion, but they really wanted to hang onto that "10 year" title.
